#22 – Balut – Philippines
We all know that eggs are a common food throughout the world, and we all love eating those delicious egg omelets, but in Philippines, they eat eggs, but different eggs than the rest of the world.
What is this all about? What different eggs are prepared as a meal in the Philippines? Well, we have eggs, but Philippines people have Balut. Balut is a meal prepared by boiling alive duck embryo, while it is still alive.
Balut is typically eaten with seasonings such as vinegar, chili, and garlic. All of the egg contents are eaten – even the wings and beak. Balut is a common street food throughout Philippines and it is often chased down with an ice-cold beer. You just crack Balut, slurp and bite it. Simple.
