#23 – Prairie Oysters – Canada
Why are oysters featured on this list, when they aren’t bizarre at all? Many people would ask that question. But the answer lie in that Prairie Oysters aren’t actually oysters, but something very, very different from oysters.
What are they then if they aren’t oysters? Prairie Oysters are actually a meal made out from bull’s testicles. You will either hate or love this meal. But come on, would you eat bull’s testicles? These “oysters” are also known by the name Rocky Mountain Oysters. This meal is found all around the cattle ranching country, but if you are a curious eater wanting to try out the Canadian version, then we advise you to head out to Alberta, Canada. You can find this meal in a restaurant in Calgary, called Buzzards Restaurant. At this restaurant, this meal is served sautéed, fried, or stuffed, and accompanied with various herbs, spices, and dips. The Buzzards Restaurant serves this “special dish” during the summer months, and even organizes an annual Testicle Festival to glorify this meal.
