#7 Vlad Tepes
This Romanian (or at the time – Wallachian) Prince served as the inspiration for the famous vampire Dracula. In reality, he was a very cruel ruler and nothing less scary than the vampire. Vlad was nicknamed the Impaler due to his methods of handling people he didn’t like. His punishments included skinning, disembowelling, cutting people’s sexual organs and burying alive. It is said he gave strong resistance to the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, Mehmed II, by refusing to pay taxes and killing over 50,000 Turks in his area.
