Finally we have a “normal” painting on this list. You have to admit that all of the previous ones, despite their prices, are kind of weird and not worth that money, except the author behind them which adds a lot to the price.

This beautiful and somehow surrealistic painting was painted by one of the greatest painters that have lived – Vincent van Gogh. This painting depicts a yellow vase with fifteen sunflowers. Nothing special. But the yellow background of this painting is interesting and no one else can paint a painting with such brush stroke technique as Vincent van Gogh.

The painting itself was painted in 1888 and is the second painting of Vincent van Gogh to depict sunflowers. Vincent van Gogh must have loved sunflowers…

  1. You are far away of having traced down the most expansive painting in the world! To my knowledge, this happens to be a work of Paul Gauguin painted in 1892 and entitled “Nafea faa ipoipo” (which in tahitian means “When will you marry”). It was once owned by swiss collector Rudolf Staehelin, who bought it in 1917, and sold in 2015 by his grandson to the emir of Quatar for an alleged price of $300 million.

  2. To the know-all commenter on here; NONE of these works, nor the Qatar Gauguin, could remotely be described as the most expansive in the world. See what you said, now?
