#21 – Haggis – Scotland
As we have said in the beginning of this list, there are some creepy and bizarre meals that are proclaimed to be one country’s national dishes. That is the case with Scotland and its bizarre national dish – Haggis. Now let’s talk about how Haggis is prepared. The main ingredients of Haggis meal are: sheep’s heart, liver, lungs, oatmeal, onion, stock, and spices. Now, all of those ingredients are mixed and then put up into sheep’s stomach, which becomes stuffed to the top with the before mentioned ingredients and is later simmered.
The history of this meal goes all the way back to the 1400s. Now, in modern times, you can eat Haggis at any Scottish restaurant you find on your way. On Robert Burns Day, Haggis is served as the main dish. If you order this meal at a restaurant, it will be typically served with mashed potatoes and turnips. Also, Haggis is served with a dram of good whiskey to get it down. Although a little creepy dish, Haggis is great source of iron and fibres.
